BEAR Time

BEAR (Becoming Excited about Reading) Time is a school-wide initiative to encourage students to read. By taking time out of the normal school day to allow students to read for pleasure, teachers are not only helping to develop an important skill, but also allowing students to realize that reading can be an enjoyable experience.

Reading Bear

All students are to participate in BEAR Time during 5th block on C days. For students who have second, third, or fourth lunch shifts, BEAR Time occurs 11:01 11:16. For students have first lunch shift, BEAR Time occurs 11:25 11:40.

Students are encouraged to bring their own reading materials. If they do not have any, teachers should provide materials for them. Students are not allowed to come to the library to get reading materials during BEAR Time because they should be reading in their classrooms. Students should not be reading textbooks during this time. They should be reading something that they want to read, not something that is required.

The slogan of BEAR Time is "BEAR Time in Your Spare Time." Since the purpose of BEAR Time is to make reading an enjoyable experience, we hope that students will look forward to reading at times other than during the designated BEAR Time reading periods. Students are encouraged to read after finishing a test, after homework is completed, while on the bus, or during any free time that they have either at school or at home. Any time is a good time for BEAR Time!
